Probably the greatest mystery about Mothman involves the question---is "IT" a harbinger of doom, a malevolent ultra-terrestrial intent on doing us harm? Or is he an ultra-terrestrial whose actions actually are a covert way of helping humanity? I have no idea. The guy who did MOTHMAN'S PHOTOGRAPHER has a great article over at PARANOIA where he posits the idea that MOTHMAN is actually some sort of beneficient-type angel. Sort of scenario NO. 2, per above. Could be. Maybe Keel was wrong. Excellent posting by REGAN, though.
Yeah, Mothman is definitely a weird one. Coincidentally I watched the film version (Richard Gere) again 2 nights ago. Whether it's actually malevolent or not, I'm not sure. But it certainly comes across as ominous, at the very least.
