In somewhat related news, a huge Nile monitor lizard was caught near a home in OREGON. Maybe you've heard of it.
How do we know these things were "dumped" by their "owners?" Could be, but hey...
That is why I'm saying "Fortean." Guess we'll never know, will we??? Just glad they caught the creatures and they can be transferred to a proper habitat.
C: Yeah, there is a definite Fortean angle to some of these stories. For example, as you'll know from this blog, I often highlight stories of weird animals on Britain's Cannock Chase woods. Interestingly, a creature similar to this one was seen in a pool near the Chase a few years ago. Strange that of all places it should have popped up near the Chase!
A snapping turtle was caught recently in Herne Bay, Kent. It has been in a local pond for many years but locals simply thought it was terrapins doing all the damage, until of course they drained the pond and found the leathery abomination.
There are so many cases of crocodiles, Monitor Lizards etc on the loose in the UK...at the moment there's a boa constrictor on the loose about 2 miles from my home...it's been on the roam for more than a month. Always make for great little monster stories.
