I appreciate the writer of the second letter defending Dr. Bindernagel, but I believe that he means "subspecies" regarding the bison/buffalo (the woodland bison, which was known to have existed but was assumed extirpated). And as far as the "new species" of cougar in Manitoba mentioned, I assume that's actually a rediscovery as well. The species has been documented to have returned to its previous range or possibly expanded it (due to the increased population of deer in those areas).
