Dead Birds

This is kind of weird...

Everybody, from time to time, stumbles upon the body of a dead bird. But, 3 times in practically as many weeks, and on both sides of the world?

When me and Dana were back in England a few weeks ago for my mom's funeral, a blackbird slammed into the kitchen window of my dad's house and was killed outright.

Then, the next day, when the three of us went to my mom's nursing-home to thank all the staff for looking after while she had Alzheimer's, there was a brightly-feathered little bird dead at the door to the building.

And, just this morning, after having run a few errands, I got home and found another dead bird - this time on our drive.

Maybe it's all some odd coincidence.

Comments anyone?

Strange stuff mate...mind you, I do quite frequently come across dead, smaller birds, although recently found a large, dead seagull and also a magpie. I think their placement is what makes them rather peculiar more than anything, wouldn't you agree.

Cheers for the comment, Neil. Yeah, the placement is indeed an odd factor. I'll do an update if anything else turns up.

Finding dead birds is a common thing, especially if you live in heavily wooded areas or urban areas where they are fed or encouraged to be residential.
Omens surrounding dead birds often vary according to what you find dead. A dead dove, for instance, can mean marital strife and a need for change in the marriage. A dead songbird or other little birds of that type can mean a big change following sorrow or stress. Youve certainly had your share of stress recently, my dear friend. The finds, if they are in fact signs rather than coincidence, could simply mean to take notice of the changes in life and that you may have to redirect or adjust things for a while or even permanently.
The blackbird slamming into the window seems to definitely have been a messenger, as they often are the messengers of souls crossing over, so that particular one seems to have the most significance of all of them, since it was at the time of (or shortly after)your mum's passing.
If its any consolation, spiritually and psychically, I dont feel any negative energy around you, so I dont think the little ones brought any more messages of sorrow or ill luck. Probably more likely messages of letting go and moving forward.
Youre strong, I admire you greatly and am proud to call you my friend. I hope something I said here helps you.
Blessings to you, Dana, and your father.

Thanks Raven, that's a greatly appreciated comment, and very thought-provoking too. Thank you, my friend!

I once found a dead bird in the toilet of a flat I used to live in. Weirdest part was that the bathroom didn't have a window, it must have flown in elsewhere in the flat then made it's way to the bathroom.

Nick, when I read your post I had another weird synchronicity moment (had very odd dream about birds last night) -- as I was reading your post I thought that the birds were definitely signs for you -- and Raven's comments are insightful and I think there's a lot there that's true..I would just second that.

Hey Scott

Thanks for that, very strange...

Thanks Regan, that's weird you should have had that dream. I'll definitely keep a look-out for any other strangeness that may come along...

...and here I was today, wondering aloud to a friend why you never come across dead birds, which is strange as I live in a city overrun with seagulls...

Nick:

Just a suggestion . . . Interpreting omens (if that is what they are) is a very personal endeavor, like dream interpretation. If you have the internal feeling that this is something more thal wild coincidence then it behooves you to sit with it for a while and look deeply for the meaning(s).

Questions you might ask yourself: what were your feelings at the time of each incident, both before, during and after? Do you have any specific associations with any or all of the birds that you found? What awareness do you have of the lore surrounding any or all of these birds? In the incident with the blackbird, what direction did the bird come from and what might that mean to you?

Some time doing free association and more formal meditation might yield some interesting results.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Stuart

Interesting synchronicity!

Thanks for that Travis, I'll definitely dig into it further re your suggestions and observations.
