A part of me does wonder if we are overreacting about these die-offs due to our ability to receive instant updates from all around the world.
Nevertheless, anther part of me does find Kithra's hypothesis interesting. And these birds are indeed migrant. I shall pass this link along to my Grailer comrades
Yeah, I do think that (to a degree, at least) people are looking for any and all animal deaths and linking them together as some escalating mass event, which it may not be.
