Monsters of New Jersey
Good news! There's a new book out right now from Loren Coleman and Bruce G. Hallenbeck: Monsters of New Jersey: Mysterious Creatures in the Garden State.
I haven't read the book yet, but - as you can see, it has a fantastic cover of a certain well-known NJ beast...
Here's Loren to tell you more; and here's the Amazon link.
Chupacabras Vs. Gargoyle!
No, that's not the name of some new, low-budget horror film! Rather, rumors are circulating on the island of Puerto Rico that the Chupacabras may not be the only weird beast roaming around, as this new story at Inexplicata demonstrates...

Britain's Cats: Normal or Paranormal?
There's probably nothing more inflammatory within the field of large, exotic cats roaming the British Isles, than a discussion of whether some of these creatures are less (or paradoxically more!) than mere flesh-and-blood. Nevertheless, such reports do exist, and my latest Lair of the Beasts article for Mania.com reveals the details of three such cases from the vicinity of Britain's Cannock Chase.

Posts
As you may have noticed, posts here (and, indeed, at all my blogs) have been somewhat short and sporadic this past week or more. Nope, I haven't been attacked by Bigfoot, and I'm not our hunting for the Chupacabras! It's the day to day activities of normal work deadlines that have me tied up, but things should hopefully be back to normal in the next week or so, when I'll have a bit more time to devote to blogging extensively again - for a while, at least!
Lake Monster News
From today's Anomalist:
"BCSCC Seeks Lake Cameron Monster Cryptomundo. A scientific investigation of reports from British Columbia's Lake Cameron that an unknown creature is gamboling in its wakes is being mounted by the B.C. Scientific Cryptozoology Club (BCSCC). Club co-founder John Kirk files this report from Postmedia News in which he comments on last September's ill-fated attempt to solve the lake monster mystery."

Tonight On Bigfoot Quest
From Bob and Mike at Bigfoot Quest radio:
Hello Friends:
Please join your hosts Bob Coyne and Mike Killen as we welcome William Barnes to the show. William is the man behind "The Falcon Project", which he describes on his website as "The most penetrating search for Sasquatch/Bigfoot ever conducted in North America". He and his partners will be conducting aerial searches for the creatures in various areas throughout North America using thermal cameras that are "the newest in today's technology, and are the same as the ones being used by the military." Sure others have tried aerial searches in the past with no success, but William's group is different. They will be employing a combination of state of the art equipment and methods that have never been tried before! This is sure to be a very interesting and informative show you won't want to miss! If you can, please join us in our live show chat. It's always a lot of fun and we love to interact live with our listeners.

Behind the Paranormal
Last night, I was interviewed by Paul and Ben Eno for their Behind the Paranormal radio show. The subject? Cryptozoology, of course! We covered such issues as the Loch Ness Monster, Mothman, Britain's large and exotic cats, the Houston Batman, the Lake Worth, Texas Goat-Man, and much more.
Here's the link where you can download the show.

Ebu Gogo News
From today's Anomalist:
"Legendary Humanoids: Ebu Gogo, the Flores Island Hobbit Phantoms & Monsters.
The tales of Ebu Gogo, literally translated as "grandmother who eats everything," may be based on the memory of Homo floresiensis, the diminutive humans believed to have become extinct on the Indonesian island of Flores about 12,000 years ago. Here Lon Strickler collects what is known from inhabitants of the island about their legendary little people. Could there still be pockets of the little people existing in the rain forest, and could the islanders have interbred with these diminutive humans? With images and video."

Monsters at the Anomalist
There's several cool links at The Anomalist today that are well worth checking out:
"Megalodon Slicing Up the Seals? Cryptomundo. The appearance of mutilated seal carcasses along the coast of Scotland has scientists grasping for answers to the mysterious way in which the animals all met their deaths. Loren Coleman presents Tom Rowley's story on the grisly happenings from the United Kingdom newspaper The Sun and presents some images with the question posed of whether an ancient giant shark could be involved in the odd deaths. Coleman also has news and images today of the naming of a Canadian park after a legendary lake monster in Now, Manipogo News! Also, comments generated by an earlier post have led John Kirk to issue More Thoughts on Alaska Cadborosaurus Footage."

The Houston Batman
Over at Mania.com, my latest Lair of the Beasts column is focused upon what is truly one of the stranger stories with quasi-cryptozoological links - namely, that of the "Houston Batman."
The creature (or man, depending on your perspective) was a definitively weird one. For some, this early-1950s case is seen as evidence that the military was experimenting with futuristic jet-pack devices. For others, the Houston Batman was a literal flying man. And, unsurprisingly, there are those who perceive the entity as nothing less than Mothman himself.
Whatever the truth of the affair, it's an odd story indeed and can be found at Mania, right here!

A Killer Kangaroo?
Over at Cryptomundo, Loren Coleman has a good new post on the 1930s Killer Kangaroo of Tennessee. Was it real? A media hoax? Some other form of animal? Whatever the truth of the affair, Loren provides an excellent write-up on a thought-provoking and intriguing story.

Bart Nunnelly - Tonight
Tonight's guest on the Exploring All Realms radio-show that I co-host with Raven Meindel will be Bart Nunnelly, author of the book Mysterious Kentucky.
And here's a bit more about Bart:
Author, artist, filmmaker and well known Fortean investigator, Bart Nunnelly has been studying all aspects of the unexplained in his native western Kentucky for over 25 years. His wanderings throughout the Bluegrass bottomlands have brought him face to face with such creatures as Bigfoot, black panthers, water monsters and several other curious Kentucky cryptids including a Thunderbird in 1998 – something no other living researcher can presently claim.
In addition to legendary beasts, Nunnelly has also experienced spectral phenomena and UFO activity on multiple occasions. His first book, “Mysterious Kentucky”
- https://www.prairieghosts.com/myst_kentucky.html - was published in 2007 by Whitechapel Press to much acclaim and his next two works “The Inhumanoids! Real Encounters With Beings That Can’t Exist,” and “Bigfoot In Kentucky” are both due out later this year by CFZ Press - http://www.cfz.org.uk/ - and Whitechapel Press, respectively.
His crytpo-art has been widely featured in everything from children’s books to television shows throughout the world and his first documentary, “Hunt The Dogman,” a rousing investigation of Kentucky’s werewolf sightings, was released in 2007 by Grendel Films - http://www.grendelfilms.org/
He is currently working on his second crypto-documentary film project, “The Spottsville Monster,” with McGill Media Llc, out of Louisville.

The Boggy Depot Bigfoot Conference
Here's something that may be of interest: a website has just been set up to promote the Atoka, Oklahoma-based Boggy Depot Bigfoot Conference which I'll be speaking at on the weekend of October 22 and 23.
As the organizers note:
"This 2 day conference is different than some of the other conferences you may have attended in the past. First and foremost the goal of the conference is to raise money for the Children's Hospital Foundation and the Children's Miracle Network! By helping the Boggy Depot Conference you can help create miracles for children everywhere. We know the whole family will have a great time because we have something for everyone! See you soon!
"For the Bigfoot enthusiast we will have the 5k Bigfoot Charity Run/Walk and Bigfoot Movies in the Park, not to mention the conference itself. For Speakers we will have, Scott Nelson, a former Navy cryptolinguist sharing his findings on a potential Sasquatch Language, D.W . Lee and Randy Harrington from the M.A.B.R.C., Robert Swain writer/artist of Laughsquatchand famed cryptozoologists/authors Ken Gerhard and Nick Redfern.
"For the Ghost Hunter and Paranormal crowd, author/blogger Cullen Hudson will be on hand to speak about some of the cases he has investigated in Oklahoma.
"For the Indian and History Buffs the Choctaw Nation will be on hand perform a few of their ceremonial dances for the public to observe.
"For the car buffs and gearheads out there, the Sick Reality Car Club will be there to show off some of the coolest cars ever assembled. From rat rods to muscle cars to 4x4's there is sure to be a car or truck there that you will fall in love with.
"Don't forget about all of our great vendors that will be there like Spaztic Designz Airbrush Facepainting, Silpada Designs Silver Jewlery, Maui- Wowi Hawaiian Smoothies & Coffee, Don Juan Rosted Corn, Jam & Jummpers Moonwalks and Concessions, Adrianna's Fashions, BryCob Scentsy Candles, Something Beautiful by Moriah, The Nut House - Rosted/ Candy coated Nuts, Brian's Sasquatch Shirts and many more! Sea Serpent Or Not?
Over at her Krystal Kave, Kithra says:
"According to an article in the Daily Mail, on 31st July, a picture has been circulating the internet purporting to show a sea monster that, so far seems to have eluded identification. It was seen off Saltern Cove, Devon, UK, and has been dubbed by many as a “new Nessie.” The image appears to show a greenish-brown, long-necked “something,” with a reptilian-like head, that was trailing a shoal of fish just 30 yards offshore. According to reports the fish beached themselves just a few seconds later.
"The photo was sent to the Marine Conservation Society, who have still to decide exactly what it is. Although theories range from a sea serpent to a salt water crocodile. The lady who took the photograph at first thought that it might be a turtle but the Marine Conservation Society says that not only do turtles not chase fish, but the description doesn’t fit."
Kithra continues here.
Meanwhile, of this same affair, Jon Downes says: "Me? I think it is a basking shark; I think that what appears to be its back is its tail, and the `head` is the tip of its nose, but golly, wouldn't I love to be proved wrong!"
A mystery animal? A Shark? Doubtless this story will be circulating for a while...
