Looking Back At The Lytham Beast

Several years ago a strange creature was seen roaming around the English town of Lytham St. Anne's. Various theories were offered at the time, but the matter was never really resolved; and the beast seemed to vanish as mysteriously as it had arrived - as it often does in such cases! Here's my overview of the affair, newly-posted to my Lair of the Beasts column at Mania.com.

  1. Thanks for the overview, Nick.
Sounds like a Dog-Hare hybrid. If such a thing is possible. Who knows??? There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio... :)

  2. Judging my the newspapers etc, the Lytham beast was a sum of many parts. 1) Possibly a lynx - naturally elusive so would remain away from the public until a sighting reported to the press. 2) Large dog. Unfortunately, large dogs still get mistaken for bizarre creatures! 3) Local panic. This is my opinion anyway. The reports are so inconsistent, and Sam Shearon's drawing was rather dramatised, so I'm not holding my breath for a monstrous dog-hare hybrid guys.

These kind of clusters and flaps occur the world over and despite researching monsters, I think alot are more connected to over-active imaginations and media exaggeration and inaccuracy.
