A Cemetery Snake...

Well, yet again there is high-strangeness afoot in the woods of Britain's Cannock Chase - and specifically in the vicinity of its German Cemetery.

As regular readers will know, the cemetery in question has been a veritable hotbed of weirdness for years: Bigfoot, werewolves, hairy-sprites, ghosts, marauding black-cats, and spectral black-dogs have all been seen roaming amongst the old war-graves.

But, now there's a new player in town: a giant snake that has been seen slithering around the area. As the story shows, this is not the first time that similar beasts have been seen on the Chase (I investigated a case myself a number of years ago that reportedly occurred in the blisteringly hot-summer of 1976).

So, what are people seeing? Are they regular snakes or something else? From the descriptions, they could perhaps be pythons. However, the problem is that such creatures would not last long when the cold, harsh winter sets in. And yet such creatures have been seen for years on the Chase, which begs the questions: if they are regular snakes, how are they surviving those aforementioned harsh winters year-after-year? And why are the snakes (like all of the other odd beasts seen on the Chase) now homing in on the German Cemetery?

Truly a mystery of Fortean proportions!

  1. More intriguing stuff, although I don't think snake sightings are anything peculiar. Reptiles seem to be escaping or being dumped at an alarming rate across the UK. More than 300 specimens are picked up each year in London, and cemeteries are certainly ideal places to hide as they are rarely frequented and provide undisturbed undergrowth. Numerous large snakes have escaped in Kent and never been found and appear more hardy than we realise.

  2. Sounds like a "Fortean" snake to me.

  3. What is the average temperature of a British sewer?

Having spent a winter in Detroit, I am suspicious that it is far too cold in London for a large snake to be slithering about in the wilds.

Just don't ask me about the alligators in the sewers around here in Georgia, as the Atlanta Constitution reported on these lil critters back in August of 1873. And every so often, Mr. or Ms. Gator gets picked up swimming in the Chattahoochee usually headed for Lake Lanier.

Well they did till the US Army Corps of Engineers and the city of Altanta conspired together to nearly drain it, but that is another whole story.

    Love the blog!

  4. Has anyone checked the whereabouts of Amanda Donohoe lately?

    Just asking.
