Excellent post... considering that it's from the "mainstream" media, the article seemed unusually objective. I was particularly struck by the sighting made by the "bat crew" near the mine. (I'm betting that they were environmental consultants contracted by a natural resources management agency.) I too study bats and when out collecting data at night w/my colleagues have heard them joke about possibly seeing Bigfoot (UFO's too). I guess that it's really like playing the odds... you spend enough time in the backcountry at night, your probability of encountering such fauna (that normally don't make themselves conspicuous by day) increases. Found this out personally last summer when returning from such a trip I saw a black bear ambling across the road... it was my first one to see despite having spent many daylight hours in bear country beforehand. I'm surprised that the crew reported seeing the Bigfoot, that's not something that increases your chances of getting hired to do scientific studies of wildlife. Considering this, I wonder how many such sightings go unreported.
